FOCUS: Words to Prepare Your Mind
“A sense of gratitude will help open our eyes to the things God has done in the past and the things He will do in the future.” – Emilie Barnes, Hugs: Daily Inspirations for Women
“Always [give] thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
PUSH: Words to Influence Your Spirit
Do you believe that God is good, that He has your best interest in mind, and that He wants you to be successful in everything He has for you? Did you know that having a mindset like this will always lead to a thankful heart?
In everything we do, in all circumstances, we are to thank God. He sees the bigger picture, and He is not going to allow something good nor bad to hap- pen without making sure that the result will give Him all the praise and glory.
I am going to share one of my stories with you, but I am not going to focus on details. I want you to see the dynamics of what I went through instead. I worked on a deal for my job for an entire year. There were times during that year when I didn’t know what else I could do. I felt as though I had no control. However, I kept sensing that in His still, small voice, God was say- ing, “Trust Me. It is all going to work out. Thank Me. Thank Me while you wait.” That’s easier said than done, right? I worked and prayed and waited and thanked God. My flesh would worry consistently, but my heart would always be at peace. I worked. I went on fasts with God, to seek Him for some clearer answers. I waited. And I thanked Him. You know the saying “There’s a light is at the end of the tunnel”? When we are going through times like this, we wonder about that light. We wonder if things are ever going to “end well.” All along the way, I had my doubts about the situation, but God was always there. When I allowed myself to worry, it exposed my lack of trust, but I thanked God in spite of my feelings. I knew that worry is not from Him; it is not where He wants us to live.
Finally, everything came together. And I thanked God.
I can look back on the situation now and see that God was waiting for the right timing. But in the meantime, it felt as though He was testing me to see how much I was going to trust Him. Was I going to trust Him to accomplish His will or was I going to give up and demand that my own way happens? Even though it may have felt like that, I actually saw something different at work; God strengthened me and developed in me a heart of thankfulness. In the end, God knew what I needed and when I needed it. And I was better off because of the process. One of the most awesome things about going through times like this is seeing everything work out for God’s glory. His timing is everything. He isn’t going to allow something to happen or come to an end until we have learned all He wants us to learn through that time of waiting.
So I encourage you today to give Him thanks in everything you do. I promise; He will never let you down.
BREATHE: Words to Impact Your Prayers
Acknowledge and Admit:
Lord, You are worthy of my gratitude and praise.
I forget that Your Word, the Bible, tells me to “give thanks in all circumstances.”
Appreciate and Ask:
Thank You, Lord. Just thank You.
I ask You to fill my heart with trust and peace; thankfulness and praise.
