Leah Townsend
may prefer a peaceful existence, but that
doesn’t
make her a doormat . . . does it?
Most people probably would
not consider wearing pink and ordering crepes
suzette as a sign of “contention” or a display of
anger. But Leah’s boyfriend – the
dependable but exceedingly dull Edward – feels
differently.
That’s why, after years
of avoiding conflict at all costs, Leah finds
herself attending a conflict resolution class – one
that Edward signed her up for. (The nerve!) Of
course she’ll go, even if the thought
of it gives her hives. After all, she’s
committed to keeping the peace. Now she’s
stuck in a class full of people she’s
sure are her polar opposites, including a conservative
talk-radio host named Cinco who thrives on
the very thing Leah constantly tries to avoid – making
waves.
Uh, Edward? Enrolling Leah in that class
may not have been your best move. (Not
for you, anyway.) On the other hand,
it may turn out to be the best thing that ever
happened to Leah. The question is, between
family crises, writer’s block, a demanding
agent, and romantic indecision – can
a conflict-challenged playwright ever learn
to stand her ground . . . even if life doesn’t
come in three predictable acts?
